What is on your weekend reading list?

What are you reading this weekend? Being a Crime Fiction and sub-genre fanatic, I opted for a Thriller, which I already started reading during the week. A Reason To Kill is the first book in the DI Matt Barnes Thriller Series, by author Michael Kerr. It is the first time that I read Michael Kerr, and I must say, I’m really enjoying the book so far. I got acquainted with Michael Kerr on the UK Crime Book Club Facebook Page, which I am a member of, and thought I will give his work a try.

Michael Kerr is a well-published author and his books are available on Amazon, you can also interact with him on Goodreads.

We’re mid-winter in my part of the world, so it is a fabulous time to snuggle up with a great read, and a cup-a-joe, hot-choc or nice glass of red on the side ☕️🍷📚! Have a fab weekend! Bookish greetings!

Tales that are perfect for coffee breaks – but beware; like chocolate, they lure the reader into just one more.  Paul Michael Peters has created a magical collection of stories that help the reader look at the day from a different perspective. This is a collection that once you start you can’t put down. Stories are perfect for anyone trying to fit reading into a busy day.

What if you could remember everything? What would your life be like if your father was the worlds greatest illusionist? What if your partner was plotting against you? What actions would you avoid if you were the devil? These are only a few of the questions explored in this collection of short stories.

There is something about Peters writing that is almost intoxicating and leaves you wanting more. The light feel of the stories is relaxing and charming. Each story carries hints of mystery in connections waiting to be made. Each takes the reader on flights of well-drawn history and place and compelling characterization. A sense of parable and myth builds one story into the next, even when the path is so different. And the whole is a beautifully connected diorama of people and place.

Like your favourite Twilight Zone episodes, there’s an otherworldly beauty. Between 2012 and 2018 author Paul Michael Peters released two collections of short stories, “Mr Memory and Other Stories of Wonder,” and “Killing the Devil.” These followed his first publication, a novella called “Peter in Flight,” and in between his two novels “The Symmetry of Snowflakes,” and “Insensible Loss.”

Paul Michael Peters: The Complete Collection of Short Stories 2012 – 2018” includes all his published and unpublished stories. Top-selling author Paul Michael Peters is an American writer best known for his take on the quirky tangents and morals of contemporary life in his recent novel, Insensible Loss.

His upcoming novel, Combustible Punch, is a thriller that explores the psychological dance between that most unlikely of odd couples: a serial killer and a high school shooting survivor. (Book Blurb provided by author website)

BookCRITICO Review

This is a lovely book to read. I thoroughly enjoyed each and every story, with its interesting characters and different creative worlds. Because of the nature of the publication, I could read it in between other projects and still stay on track. Paul Michael Peters managed to create stories which transported me to other worlds and allowed my imagination to run wild. Mr Peters is a master story spinner, and The Complete Collection of Short Stories: 2012-2018 is a superb read which I highly recommend you give a try.

BookCRITICO Book Review

I was introduced to Amel Leafbrought and Raolcan the majestic Purple Dragon on a stormy summers evening when the power in my neighbourhood went out, due to storm damage. Being a Book Slave of note, my Kindle and iPad are always charged and at the ready for a marathon reading session. I cuddled up on my reading chair, the room lit only by my little camping light, and scrolled through the books on my iPad; there are many, as I am forever buying books and storing them for when I get time to read them. I was drawn to the cover of Dragon School: First Flight, purple being one of my favourite colours. The big Purple Dragon, Raolcan, flew off the cover and invited me to enter his world and also meet fragile but headstrong Amel Leafbrought, Dragon Rider initiate.

Amel Leafbrought, was injured as a toddler when the village her family lived in got invaded by raiders. She was left with an injured leg and hip that would see her hobbling along with the aid of a crutch for the rest of her life. In her teens, Amel leaves her family and village behind to join Dragon School and become a Dragon Rider. On arrival, Amel meets the other initiate Dragon Riders in her group. They are all from different backgrounds, some even Nobel. Being from a peasant village, lumbered with a limp, relying on a crutch, Amel appears to be weak and is whispered about and treated with disdain. No one trusts Amel to become a fully fledged Dragon Rider. It’s a gruelling process, you have to be strong and sometimes people die attempting First Flight.

The day came for Amel’s group to choose their Dragons. The Dragons all have different colours, linking them to a specific Dominion, green, red, golden, black and more. The colour you choose determines your role for the rest of your life as a Dragon Rider. Amel wants to gain a purpose in life considering her disability. She is the last one to choose her Dragon. As she makes her way past many alcoves of Dragons already chosen, her thoughts wander as to what kind of Dragon she will be able to choose. Suddenly there is a voice magically speaking to her in her mind, telling her that she will not be choosing a Dragon. Flustered and close to tears she sees her dream slipping away, until the mystery voice speaks again, telling Amel that a Dragon has already chosen her. Raolcan, the big Purple Dragon, chose Amel. They immediately bond and become a courageous force to be reckoned with.

I loved reading Dragon School: First Flight, thoroughly enjoyed Amel’s character, frowned upon those in her initiate group that looked down on her, and wished that I had a big Purple Dragon of my own. Amel’s character is daring, have lots of courage and shows the world that even if one has a disadvantage in life, you can excel and succeed. We are not all created equal, but if you put your mind to something, you can do it! At times all we need is a little nudge, belief and encouragement. In Amel’s case, Raolcan the big Purple Dragon.

Enter the fantastical world of colourful Dragons and courageous Dragon Riders, pop over to Amazon now, get your copy and be amazed! I highly recommend Dragon School: First Flight. You will not be disappointed! I cannot wait to pick up the next read by Sarah K. L. Wilson. Pure magic!
